Tideswell being a rural community may not be as 'diverse' as a large inner city, but we do have 2 places of worship, St John The Baptist (Anglican), and Fountain Square Church (URC/Methodist), with a high level of co-operation between the churches with Methodist services sometimes being held in St Johns church when congregation numbers exceed the Fountain Square Church capacity.

Tideswell & District Environment Group: We are a group of local people, living in Tideswell and surrounding villages, who want to do our bit to help improve the local and global environment.
We hope to achieve our aims by:

Tideswell Cinema is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation bringing digital film and theatre to the heart of the Peak District National Park.
Based in The Community Hall in the heart of the village, Tideswell Cinema run an annual season of films from September to August, as well as live arts broadcasts from the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, Royal Opera House and other venues. Tideswell Community Players
Tideswell Community Players: (Program advertised locally and in the Village Voice) are a local theatre group performing since 1930. They put on a variety of classic, contemporary and popular plays and events.
Tideswell Theatre: have been bringing professional music and theatre to the village since 2001.
Tidza Guisers: Are not currently active, and are looking for new blood, the Tidza Guisers perform raucous summers plays in the streets at Tideswell Festivals.
Tideswell’s very own amateur drama group welcomes anyone who would like to come along – whether as an actor, stage technician, playwright, director or in the audience for our productions.

Tideswell First Responders
Tideswell and Hope Valley Community First Responder East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) always provides the fastest possible response to emergency calls using its conventional resources such as ambulances and fast response cars. However, for patients experiencing cardiac arrest every second counts: for every minute that passes without defibrillation a person’s chance of survival can decrease by up to 10%. The fact is, in more rural and hard to reach areas, Community First Responders have a much better chance of providing the immediate help needed prior to the arrival of an EMAS ambulance crew.
Early 2023 Tideswell and Hope Valley combined to form 'Tideswell and Hope Valley First Responders' or 'THVCFR' you can find our new contact details below.
In addition to dealing with cardiac arrest, Community First Responders can provide help to patients suffering from other medical conditions such as a heart attack or breathing difficulties. By using simple techniques, such as putting someone into the recovery position, a life could be saved. The types of emergency calls which Community Responders are sent to are carefully chosen and an ambulance is always dispatched at the same time as the Community First Responder is alerted.
Community First Responders are a volunteer group and self-funding with the group having to raise funds to purchase a set of equipment so that it is immediately to hand when they go on call. A kit includes a portable defibrillator and a medical bag equipped with oxygen, masks and various other medical devices and first aid equipment. Whilst EMAS provide some of the equipment we nevertheless still need to raise about £1600 to meet the costs of the equipment we must buy ourselves.

W https://www.bishoppursglove.co.uk Friends Of St John the Baptist church The Friends of St Johns, Tideswell (the Cathedral of the Peak), is a group which has been established to support the maintenance of this historic, grade 1 listed building with in the village of Tideswell. The architecture of this fascinating building and the integration within the village has a significant importance.
Tideswell would not be Tideswell without this unique and historic church. Everyone who lives in Tideswell benefits from this building, whether they worship at the church; get married at the church, attend a local event at the church, get pleasure from passing the unique architecture every day or benefit from the tourists drawn to the village due to the church.
Together we can support the continuation of this fascinating building and this website will start to build up a digital archive of images, documents and interactive web pages to bring the church to you, whether you live in Tideswell or New Zealand.

Tideswell kitchen garden can be found at the rear of the Institute (behind St John Church).
Facebook Tideswell Community Library Tideswell library was transferred to local (community) management in 2023. It is currently run by a group of approximately twenty volunteer librarians along with eight trustees.
The library operates alongside the Community Libraries department of Derbyshire County Council. The same operating system is used by Tideswell Community Library as that used by the D.C.C. library service. This gives access to county wide requests for books as well as a stock rotation system and the provision of new books.
The library has two computers for (free) use by the public following registration as a library user. As well as internet access, these machines allow use of Libre Office and Ancestry.com (Library Edition).
As additional services, the library runs RhymeTime sessions for babies and toddlers (Monday 2:45 – 3:15) to which all are welcome. The library space is used by a number of individuals and groups as a meeting venue. Included here would be drop-in sessions by the local Police Community Support Officer, Tideswell and District Environmental Group meetings, Living History Group meetings and Tideswell Preschool visits. In addition, information on a range of issues is available.
The library space is attractive and welcoming with changing wall displays and information boards. In the colder months of the year the library is heated and acts as a warm space (although not officially registered as such).

Tideswell Library is situated in the institute buildings at the rear of St Johns Church. The Library offers books (including audio), as you would expect, but also lends out DVDs and Cds.

The Tideswell Living History project was launched in April 2012. Our aim is to preserve and communicate the recent history of Tideswell, by collecting the memories and old photographs of residents, ex-residents and visitors, both adults and children and to preserve and communicate over 150 years of community life, through pictures and voices.

Tideswell Mindfullness Group is an informal practice group for those new or experienced in mindfulness. We have no affiliations to specific traditions of practice and offer different techniques and approaches so that people can choose what works for them. Suggested donation £2.00 - £4.00 per session of whatever you can afford, to cover costs.
We meet to practice 1st and 3rd Saturday of the Month 9-10am at Litton Village Hall, with refreshments and informal time after.
On 2nd, 4th and 5th Saturdays, we meet to practice using Zoom, online.

Sangha In The Peak - Meditation Group
Sangha In The Peak - Tideswell Meditation Group: We are a small, friendly group who welcome new people whether they have any experience of mindfulness and meditation or are complete beginners.
When we meet, you will be guided through a led meditation, some gentle mindful movement then a silent meditation. We then have a short reading from the writings of the late Zen Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hahn, founder of this tradition. Finally we have a period of sharing, which is optional.
People of all faiths or none are welcome.
Our current meetings are 2nd and 4th Saturday morning each month, 10.15am -12.00pm and 1st Thursday evening 7.15 -9.00pm at Litton Village Hall.

For just £1.00 per month, you will be entered into a monthly draw and the opportunity to win cash prizes of up to £50.00.
Over 50% of the money raised by the Lottery goes to local causes, while the rest goes back to our 200+ Club members, so everybody wins!
Anybody can join, and being a member of the Lottery also makes you a member of the TDCA. It costs so little and contributes so much to local life.

Wild Meadow And Tideswell Community Orchard
We are genuinely lucky in Tideswell, being blessed with many people with in-depth knowledge about plants, environmental and horticultural matters.
Parish Council offered Wheston Bank as a site for a community orchard where we would grow cornfield annuals with red Flanders Poppies, yellow corn marigolds, pink corncockle, white campion and corn chamomile, and blue cornflowers.

Tideswell is fortunate to have superb sporting facilities thanks to the hard work of people in the village who give their time freely to organise clubs and plan events.
The Tideswell and District Sports Association (TDSA) is a sub-committee of the TDCA and focusses on everything sports related. The TDSC committee has representatives from all our sports club members and oversees maintenance of sports facilities and supports.
